1. Who qualifies for ELC in Florida?

Ans: Families in Florida may qualify for the Early Learning Coalition (ELC) School Readiness Program if their gross income is at or below 150% of the federal poverty level for their family size. Families must also pay a co-payment for child care, which is determined based on their income and family size. Additional fees may apply depending on the chosen child care provider.

2. How much does ELC pay for daycare in Florida?

Ans: The ELC typically pays up to $150 per week directly to the child care provider. If the provider charges more (e.g., $175 per week), the parent may be required to pay the difference, which includes a parent fee plus the remaining balance. Additionally, ELC assists parents in locating appropriate child care.

3. Do I qualify for child care assistance in Florida?

AnsYou may qualify for child care assistance if your family's income is at or below 150% of the Federal Poverty Level and you are either employed for at least 20 hours per week or enrolled as a student taking at least 12 credit hours.

4. How many days can a child miss with ELC in Florida?

Ans: Under the School Readiness (SR) rule, a child is allowed to be absent for up to 10 days per calendar month. This includes 3 unexcused absences and 7 excused absences.

5. How are ELC parent fees calculated in Florida?

Ans: Parent fees under the ELC program are calculated based on family size and income documentation. This assessed co-payment is then combined with any difference between the ELC payment and the provider's charge, for which the parent is responsible. Eligibility is only valid for the dates specified on the Certificate of Eligibility.
